Race day in Windrock Tennessee started off slick and greasy thanks to some overnight and early morning rain. The day before, the track was dry and in near-perfect condition but morning practice proved to be a challenge for most in the slick clay soil. The rain let off about halfway through the morning practice session and there was a three hour break until Pro race time and the rain never returned. The track had a chance to dry out in spots, but still had plenty of tricky, slippery sections to contend with. -gordo
Junior racing was full of a strong field of chargers. The fastest in seeding, Zach Gareis, wound up in second place as Kovarik Racing pinner, Ben Wallace, rode to a spectacular 7-second victory. The talent pool is deep in the junior ranks.

The Pro Women’s field raced after the Junior Men and Caroline Washam came out considerably ahead of her competitors with a 3:35. Second place and fastest in seeding, Josefine Bjorkman, finished with a 4:12 and Rachel Pagou in striking distance with a 4:15.

Finally, the Pro Men began down the track. The Pro Men’s field at the Pro Gravity Tour in Windrock was stacked with local talent, but also a host of World Cup contenders. As a result, the times were fiercely competitive with America’s top talent right there in the mix with the world’s best. Danny Hart, who had looked fast and focused all weekend backed up his first place seeding run with a victory and the only rider to hit the 2:33 mark. Dakotah Norton, Windrock regular and newly-signed rider for Devinci, used his knowledge of the terrain to eek out every tenth of a second, putting him in second place, much to his own disbelief. Luca Shaw and Neko Mulally where right on Dakotah’s heels in 3rd and 4th place with Greg Minnaar rounding out 5th.

The race weekend was well received by all in attendance and it’s clear that the downhill addiction is alive and well in the south eastern United States. A big thanks from Vital to all who made this event possible like Neko, Clayton Harper, Sean Leader, Mickey Denoncourt and the entire crew at Windrock. Stay tuned as we wrap up the coverage from Tennessee. #USDH
