In North America, the Sea Otter Classic is often the first big race of the year for many riders. Before and after the battle of competition, a lot of mechanic work is involved, and in this gallery, we’re letting you in on some of that action.

Outside of Monterey, California, a few pros flipped the script, as WD-40 athletes like Rebecca Rusch, Leigh Donovan and Teal Stetson-Lee washed and prepped the bikes of everyday riders.

In this gallery we also take a look at some of the pro bikes like that of Canadian cross-country specialist Geoff Kabush, who piloted a Scott Scale to the short track win, or Kyle Strait’s Commencal Absolut DJ bike.
