In going through some past email correspondences, we ran across a fascinating one from life member Chuck Buck of Circleburg, Ohio.
“Dear Adventure Cycling: It was clear to Mildred and me from the start that our twin daughters, Crystal and Lavinia, were special. They seemed to always be ahead of their peers in everything — learning to walk, talking, and so on. The real turning point came one Saturday morning last summer when I woke up to find the Prius with a flat tire. Next thing I knew, as I was having breakfast, I looked out the kitchen window to see the girls out fixing the flat. I was blown away — they were just five years old!
“Later in the summer Crystal and Lavinia showed their mom and me their business acumen. The girls said they wanted to have a lemonade stand, so Mildred and I invested about $20 in mix, a couple of pitchers, paper cups, and an ice chest. They insisted on setting up at the farmers’ market down the street a few blocks from our house. That first Saturday they netted $112. And they kept going back over the course of the summer, bringing in total of $966 and banking it all.
“Then, come fall, the twins announced that they wanted to use their money to open a bicycle shop! Using their lemonade money to buy tools and equipment from a bike shop owner who was closing his doors, Crystal and Lavinia set up their Twin Spin Bike Repair in our garage, bumping the Prius to the driveway.
“At first business was slow, but it’s been picking up. The weekday shop hours are limited, of course, now that the girls are in kindergarten.”
